Timmins is using its $48,254.00 share of a provincial emergency preparedness fund to buy a sandbag filler and a drone camera and for training to assess flooding along the Mattagami River.
In the city on Friday, emergency preparedness and response minister Jill Dunlop said as the number of emergencies continues to rise, the government commitment to preparedness can turn the tide.
“But we know more is needed necessarily in the North,” she remarked. “This is why our government is investing another five-million dollars into communities across the province to enhance emergency preparedness and response.”
“This investment means that even more recipients can purchase critical equipment and deliver essential emergency management training. It will help ensure that communities and organizations across Ontario have the resources that they need to help prepare for and respond to emergencies.”
The drone will be used on fire scenes to identify hot spots and possibly the cause of the blaze… as well as in search and rescue efforts. The sandbag filler will make it more efficient to fill the bags when flooding is imminent.
