A medallion commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Timmins Coin Club will be revealed on Sunday, during its annual coin show.
Promotions director Orest Lawryniw says the club began in 1965 at the Timmins Community Centre – now the Seniors Centre on Third Ave. – with 15 people crammed into a small room in the basement.
You can buy, sell or trade at Sunday’s show. Of particular interest this year is a fake toonie.
“There are quite a few of them around,” notes Lawryniw. “They’ve been flooding the market and everybody wants to have one for their collection.”
The coin show is between 10:00am and 3:00pm in the Lions Den, downstairs at the Mac. There is no admission fee.
Lawryniw he hopes people from around the Timmins area show up, as the club looks forward to its next 60 years.
“Our membership has grown tremendously over the last four or five years. We have over 50 people in our membership, with a lot of young people joining, which is nice to see.”
