It’s been a long three years for residents of Hoyle, Connaught and Barber’s Bay, and it’s finally over.
The new bridge over the Porcupine River on Frederickhouse Lake Rd. has opened. It replaces the one that was shut down in November, 2021 because of safety concerns.
The city’s director of growth and infrastructure, Scott Tam, says while you’re using it to get to and from home, you might still see workers on the bridge next week.
“There may be the odd temporary lane closure just so they can get access to the rails,” he points out, “and then again do one final scan of the site to make sure there’s nothing left on the side of the road, or side of the bridge, I should say.”
Tam agrees that Carrigan Road, which has been the detour, now needs remedial work.
“As we’re going through the budget process, we’re seeing where it slots into the grand scheme of things in the asset management plan, but we do recognize that some attention needs to happen, and we do have to rectify it at some instance.”
Frederickhouse Lake Rd. connects Hoyle, Connaught and Barber’s Bay with Hwy. 101 on one end and Municipal Rd. on the other.
