There’s another re-set on repairs to the Archie Dillon Sportsplex swimming pool, with City Hall now hoping to reopen it on Monday, December 2nd.
Community services director Steph Palmateer says the delay has a huge impact on the swim team and other activities at the pool. It’s also a significant loss to revenue, even though the city is saving on staff salaries.
“That’s really not the consideration here,” he’s quick to say. “You know, we want to provide the service to the public and unfortunately, we can’t.”
Palmateer says it’s taking longer than anticipated to replace the boiler.
“It’s been closed since August, which was part of the regularly scheduled maintenance and then during that, they found this issue. So it’s been closed way too long, in my opinion.”
Fulltime pool staff remains reassigned to other duties, while part-timers are still laid off.
