Women’s groups stage annual Take Back the Night marches ‘until we’re all safe’

This year’s Take Back the Night marches are next week in Timmins, Iroquois Falls and Cochrane.

They’re organized by the francophone and anglophone women’s sexual assault centres in Timmins.

Chantal Mailloux is executive director of the francophone centre, Elle Vive. She says the annnual event is reminder of how women should be able feel safe walking at night, or anytime.

“We get our allies together, we walk the streets together, it’s empowering,” she remarks.“just to say that we’re continuing the work and we’re not going to stop until we’re all safe.”

The Timmins march is next Thursday, September 19th.. Mailloux says it begins with a rally at 355 Wilson Ave. at 6:30pm, and the walk starts at seven for about an hour.
