Timmins Symphony Orchestra musical director Josh Wood is handing over the baton.
He is taking on full-time duties as director of the North Bay Symphony, something he’s been doing part-time the last couple of years.
He’s says it’s the logical next step, being closer to family in Southern Ontario and giving him more opportunities to advance his own career. But it won’t be an abrupt departure from Timmins.
“I’ll be probably doing a concert or two next year to help with the transition,” he tells My Timmins Now Dot Com, “and I’ve told the board and staff I’m definitely going to do everything I can to help with the transition period. But after that, after next year, no, I won’t be affiliated with the group.”
This is 37-year-old Wood’s eighth year with the Timmins organization.
He says he has been blessed by his time here, and whoever gets the job is walking into a great place to live and a good orchestra.
“I’m confident in leaving, because the people associated with the symphony, there’s so many good people, and I’m confident that they’ll find the right person to carry on and take the organization even a few steps further.”
Among the many things Wood admits he’ll miss about Timmins are the ski trails and working with the kids at the TSO Summer Camp.
