The eyes of the five-pin bowling world will be on the headpins at Midtown Bowl in Timmins this weekend.
The Timmins Invitational has been an annual competition for more than 30 years.
Competitor and organizer Al Paquette says among the 150 bowlers and guests will be some of the best bowlers in Canada.
“There’ll be multiple national champions that have participated in various tournaments across the country,” he notes.
About $150,000 is up for grabs by the best bowlers. Paquette says the contribution of the municipal accommodation tax fund is helping attract the 120 bowlers.
“It is a cash tournament, so it is for the higher-average bowlers out there, maybe not more or less your recreational bowlers.”
It’s considered one of the top ten tournaments in the country. Paquette says he is among the local competitors to keep an eye on.
“We have Darryl Gauthier, who’s a pretty good name out there as well; Clint Morissette; Darryl Bélanger; even some female bowlers,” he explains. “We have Jess Lavigne, who’s had some success in our tournament over the past couple years; her mother, Joanne Sévigny as well.”
The tournament will be livestreamed. Details on that are on the tournament’s website and Facebook page.
