Volunteers are back at it again this year, e-filing income tax returns for low-income earners, at no charge.
Timmins program coordinator Ann Dysart says it begins Tues., February 20th. The office at the 101 Mall will operate Monday to Thursday from 9:00 am until noon. And Peggy Bendell and Catharine Cribbs are doing it out of their homes in the East End.
Dysart says the program from Revenue Canada has been in Timmins for several years.
“Just trying to help out people with low incomes, so that they don’t have to go and pay a lot of money for taxes” she outlines,, because in this day and age, you’ve go to count your pennies.”
Dysart says it’s not much different from last year, although seniors get a rebate for their bus passes.
“And then they have another one for construction,” she adds. “If you have a senior that’s disabled and you have to fix up your home, they have that rebate in there, too.”
