A late night fire has struck the office trailer at the Mini-Putt at Hollinger Park.
The owner for the past 35 years, Don Marcoux says his phone wasn’t working, so he just learned of it about six hours later.
“The biggest shock is ’aww, here we go, what do you do now?’” he reacts.
Marcoux prefers the perspective that many other people have things worse, and this is not life and death.
“I’ve got a lot of good friends. So I’m sure with some help of friends, we’ll get this going,” he remarks. “Don’t know if it’ll be open for the remainder of September, but…”
Again using his positive outlook, Marcoux says there’s a bit of good news.
“The carpets are in good condition, no worries. All the damage is to the building itself. Cages are fine. So it’s just the actual nerve centre where we were working from.”
Marcoux notes that’s where snow cones are made, and putters and balls are distributed.
He only carries liability insurance, saying he has so many break-ins, filing so many claims wasn’t worth it, but he knew the risk.
At least one Go Fund Me group has started to help get the place re-opened, where, Marcoux says, everybody knows your name.
