You just know that any young golfer who belongs to three different clubs is serious about the sport.
Sixteen-year-old TH&Vs student Brody Dagenais has memberships at the Abitibi, Hollinger and Spruce Needles clubs, and is having a pretty successful season.
Early in the year, he placed ninth overall and second in the A Flight at a men’s tournament in Ottawa. He’s just back from a pro-am in Toronto called The Road to TPC, where he played with two pros and says it was a really good experience.
Heading into Grade 11, Dagenais says he’s not sure if he’ll be a playing pro some day.
“Right now, I’m just starting to think about after high school and college golf and stuff like that,” he states.
Dagenais says he started golfing occasionally when he was younger, but when Covid arrived, he stepped it up to every day. He notes that his strength is his long game with his driver, and his putting is improving, too.
“I’m just really looking forward to the future tournaments this year,” he enthuses. ”In August, I’m going to provincials and then I’m also in the Canadian Boys Junior Championship, too.”
That national competition is August 13th to 17th at the North Bay Golf and Country Club.
So what does a ravenous golfer like Brody Dagenais do all winter to maintain his skills?
“Last winter, I was golfing a lot indoors in simulators and stuff. It helped out a lot.”
