Timmins Food Bank in its new digs as the need for donations continues growing

Wednesday was the first day of distribution from the new location of the Timmins Food Bank. It has moved from the former Nativity Church on Spruce Street North to the former Daily Press building on Cedar South.

President Rick Young says it provided groceries for 84 clients, and it gets five or six new families every week.

The new spot has a lot more space and security features for volunteers who were sometimes hassled by clients.

Young says his group let supplies dwindle a bit in anticipation of the move, so there are some immediate needs for donations.

“Canned pasta, cookies, fruit cups, is stuff that we can use right now,” he points out, adding “Best time to come is Wednesday morning, when we’re open. If they don’t, we can pick it up. They just call 264-0953. Leave a message and we’ll definitely pick any donations up.”
