Disc golf, anyone?

Should Tyler Allard and his buddies get their way, disc golf will be an established sport in Timmins.

They’re reviving an attempt from a few years ago to meet with City Hall, first of all to find a location.

“It’s usually a municipal park or kind of an open space or green space., says Allard. “It could be as simple as nine disc golf  baskets, usually around the perimeter.”

Allard says the game itself is not as simple as it sounds.  It’s more than throwing a frisbee at a target.

is similar to traditional golf … using a par and instead of a hole, a basket.

“It’s a pole with a kind of a basket with chains on it. So as you throw that disc, it gets caught  in the chains and then falls inside the basket.”

Just like traditional golf clubs, there are different discs that are used to make different shots.

Allard is encouraging anyone who wants to play disc golf in Timmins to participate in the survey that’s part of the city’s move towards a new recreation, culture and tourism master plan.
