Butterflies to go free in MADD tribute

A first time event for the Timmins and area chapter of MADD will see 75 butterflies released Wednesday night.

Chapter president Amy St. Amour says it’s a tribute to victims and survivors of impaired driving. The idea comes from other Canadian MADD chapters.

“I think it’ll be quite a beautiful thing for us to do in tribute to our survivors of impaired driving and victims,” she remarks.

Believe it or not, there places to buy butterflies.

“And they come dormant,” St. Amour explains. “You refrigerate them basically and then they wake up when we’re ready to release them.”

You can still buy a butterfly as a tribute for $10.00 on the MADD Timmins Facebook page.

The release is at 7:30pm at Schumacher Lions Park, across from the Mac.
