Social issues are business issues: Outgoing Chamber of Commerce president

As a business organization, the Timmins Chamber of Commerce is concerned about social issues in the city such as homelessness and drug abuse.

Looking back on her year as president, Melanie Verreault says she’s proud of how her members connected with the issues.

“Under our community safety and wellbeing outreach with police chief John Gauthier, CDSSAB Brian Marks and Living Space Jason Sereda proved to be an insightful discussion on how our members want to be part of the solution.”

Verreault says it was an exchange of ideas and concerns between the social services and business owners.

“The Chamber works hard at presented opportunities to have our supporters heard and through sessions like these, we were able to share feedback on how business owners and operators felt when it came to safety concerns.”

In exchange, says Verreault, Chamber members learned how the police and social service groups respond to their concerns.
