For the next few weeks, during the Thursday Urban Market in downtown Timmins, you’ll spot members of the Timmins Police Youth in Policing program.
“We’re teaching kids the safety of bike riding, basically have fun with them and teach them about policing,” says Kira McGee, one of the young people in the group as a summer job.
The Grade 11 TH&VS student says her summer experience has convinced her to pursue a career in policing.
“Everything in general that I’ve done this summer has helped me decide that it’d be a cool job to do when I’m older,” adding that she’ll be looking at studying police foundations after Grade 12.
In addition to teaching bike safety at the Urban Market, Youth in Policing do a wide range of community work around the city.
