The Mountjoy Farmers Market kicks off its new season tomorrow, in the parking lot at Participark, beside the Mattagami River.
Porcupine District Agricultural Society president Rock Whissell welcomes Step 2 of COVID-19 reopening. “So our vendors will still have the masks on. We’re still asking for distancing. We’re still following the protocols from the health unit,” he explains. “Just knowing that we’re going in the right direction is something really positive for everybody.”
Locally grown vegetables – a lot of them, thanks to the early spring – will be available.

Whissell notes that it might take a few extra minutes, if you’re coming from east of the river. Reconstruction on Algonquin Blvd. has a detour set up via Wilson Ave.
“We’re still happy that there is some traffic going through the market,” he remarks. “Having those two lanes still open gives you still the opportunity to get to the market. But yeah, a little bit of patience.”
The market runs from 9:00am to noon every Saturday until Thanksgiving.
