Two small businesses have offered to assume the operation of the Summer Concert Series in Timmins.
Julie Cyr of PJ Productions and Peter Lawryniw of DJ Taz pitched their idea to city council this week.
They’ve been working for years with Tourism Timmins on the weekly concert series. They’re proposing taking it over altogether with the aim of making money on it within a few years.
Cyr said the plan is also to incorporate a talent competition, to broaden the audience demographic and attract support from other businesses.
“The Star Launcher competition will be a ten-week series competition that’s going to run in the park and through an online base as well,” she explained.
Lawryniw said they’re “heavily anticipating” the weekly concerts moving back to Hollinger Park.
“Lions Club Park is a picturesque, beautiful park with amazing acoustic sounds in it,” he acknowledged. “We noticed the dropoff in attendance immediately the first year that we went there instead of Hollinger.”
On March 24th, council will receive a staff report on what’s involved in turning over operation of the concert series.
