Permanent exhibit ‘Where We Stand: Stories of the Land’ opens at museum

The Timmins Museum has officially opened its permanent exhibit about Timmins history going back 5,000 years, called “Where We Stand: Stories of the Land”.

Tuesday night’s gala opening was the culmination of three years of going through a wide array of artifacts and assembling them into a multi-media exhibit occupying one of the museum’s two galleries.

Director-curator Karen Bachmann says it’s not just intended for visitors to Timmins.

“I think it’s an exhibition for everybody and particularly if you live in Timmins,” she says enthusiastically.  “I will bet you you’re going to find something in this exhibition that you did not know about and that you did not know about this community.”

City councillor and museum advisory board chair Michelle Boileau got her first look.

“It looks beautiful.  It’s colourful.  There are artifacts everywhere.  I don’t know where to look first,” she told My Timmins Now Dot Com.

Boileau adds that the finished product is not what she expected.

“I’m looking around the room and I’m seeing artifacts that are things that I would recognize from my grandparents’ living rooms and things that I’ve seen before and I’m looking forward to learning about them.”
