UPDATE WITH DETAILS Water sends ESCT students home, classes resume tomorrow

UPDATE AT 3:45pm:  Principal Yves Poitras tells My Timmins Now Dot Com that the clean-up is complete, and there will be school tomorrow.

The eight-hundred students of Ecole Secondaire Catholique Thériault have been sent home for the day because of broken water pipes.

Conseil des Ecoles Catholique des Grand-Rivières director of communications Richard Loiselle says the school has a water-based furnace system.  Some pipes burst around seven o’clock this morning, causing major water damage from the third floor right down to ground level.

“We have clean-up crews in the school hoping to get everything resolved for tomorrow morning to greet the children once again,” Loiselle reports.

School buses were kept on site while the situation was assessed, and then pressed back into service to bring students home.
