Timmins Police say they’re happy to have erred on the side of caution on Monday, when they locked down Timmins High and Vocational School.
As it turns out, there was no substance to what was reported to police, prompting the lockdown at TH and a state of hold and secure next door at Ecole Catholique Secondaire Thériault.
Communications coordinator Marc Depatie says a hold and secure keeps the students in place, and staff members are posted at every door.
“Allowing anybody to enter or leave the school is not permitted,” he outlines. “We’re holding them in place so that they remain secure, hence the name.”
Depatie goes on to define a lockdown. “There are a series of procedures. The police are notified, obviously and classrooms are locked and access from points of view are restricted by means of blocking any windows that might be in place on a given door, so that students are basically in hiding.”
