At the age of 32, Zach Cassidy already owns a video production business in Timmins.
Now, he says, he can add “filmmaker” to his list of accomplishments.
His six-minute feature – Toyen Stasjon (Station) – won the inaugural Timmins Film Festival short film contest.
Cassidy did the cinematography for a script written by a Norwegian friend. The only actor in it is from Australia. It’s set in a train station in Oslo.
Cassidy calls the movie abstract. “It’s sort of about a dream being blended with reality and not being able to tell the difference between the two,” he explains.

Part of the prize is screening of it during this past weekend’s festival. At the gala Friday night… he said that part was very exciting.
“Actually, I just read an article by Martin Scorsese and he was talking about the dream of any filmmaker is to have their work show on a big screen in front of people,” he told My Timmins Now Dot Com. “That’s what you do it for, right? And this will be my first experience with that, so pretty cool.”
Cassidy says his win encourages him to enter the contest again next year.
