What good is a time capsule if no one knows where it is, when it’s time to open it?
Principal Kelly Pearce says that’s the conundrum at Schumacher Public School, as it celebrates its 100th anniversary.
“There are rumours that two time capsules have been buried on the property,” she tells My Timmins Now Dot Com.
But despite investigating and talking to a lot of people, their exact locations are still a mystery.
“Apparently, one of them is right under the gym,” Pearce says. “Not exactly sure where they all are. It’s funny.”

So the school has a different idea for a time capsule it hopes will be opened 50 years from now.
“What we’re doing,” according to the principal, “is we’re actually painting the entrance with a big tree and all the students’ handprints will serve as leaves and our time capsule will take the form of a birdhouse.”
There’s a centennial open house at the school, this coming Friday between 1:00pm and 6:00pm. Pearce says alumni are welcome to come and wander the halls again.
