Living Space expanding to primary medical care

From a place to find a bed for a night, a meal, a shower, and laundry, Living Space in Timmins is growing its list of services available to its clients.

Executive director Jason Sereda says focus is now being put on primary medical care.

“We’re hoping to get that up and running over the next few months,” he reports. “ So that’ll see nurse practitioners, social workers and other support workers from organizations like Misiway (Misiway Milopemahtesewin Community Health Centre), CMHA (Canadian Mental Health Assoc.), providing medical support right at the centre.”

Sereda says it’s important to bring those services to where Living Space’s clients feel the most comfortable.

“Absolutely.  And you just want to take away any artificial barrier that’s in the way.  So instead of making people jump through the hoops for each individual organization, let’s bring the services to where the people are.”
