Timmins City Council has approved its 2019 budget, but we don’t know yet how much your tax bill will go up.
The spending plan adopted at Tuesday’s council meeting is for just over $72.7-million dollars.
By the numbers: Total 2019 City of Timmins budget: $72,725,597.00
Here’s director of finance Natalie Moore explaining to My Timmins Now Dot Com’s Bob McIntyre why your increase can’t be determined yet.
Moore: “We are waiting for the province to issue the education rates, because that has to be included in the formula when we determine the rates and ratios for the property tax payers for the City of Timmins.”
McIntyre: “Any idea when that will be?”
Moore: “The province is presenting their budget on Thursday. We’re hoping very shortly thereafter.”

COUNCIL BRIEFS
No comments or questions, just council approval for two pretty big matters.
As expected, former mayor Tom Laughren will be the new fire chief and community emergency management coordinator for the City of Timmins.
And council voted to ratify the new five-year contract with the union representing 19 outside workers at the Victor M. Power Airport.
It is retroactive to January 1, 2017 and was accepted by the union last week.
