TIMMINS FARMERS MARKET GETS A PERMANENT HOME

After years of being bounced around, the Timmins Farmers Market is finally getting a permanent home.

Porcupine District Agricultural Society president Rock Whissell has announced a deal with the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority, to put up a building right beside Riverside Drive… at the Mountjoy Participark.

“Using the Mountjoy Arena was fine,” Whissell comments, “but it didn’t give us something to grow with and to continue to bring the market even bigger and bigger.”

It will be 30 x 100 feet.  Twenty vendor stalls will be accommodated, with overflow in the parking lot.

Its neighbour across the river – Eacom Timber – is donating the lumber. Whissell is looking for more in-kind support.

He says even if the building doesn’t go up this year, the market will be held in the parking lot there.
