TPS adds two new ATVs to its fleet

They have cars, four-wheel-drive SUVs and snowmobiles. Now officers of the Timmins Police Service have two all-terrain vehicles in their fleet.

Communications coordinator Marc Depatie says the more versatile ATVs will serve a wide range of purposes.

“They will assist with the investigation of ATV collisions in remote locations,” he says to begin a list of uses, “clandestine drug investigations, stolen property, locating missing persons, remote evidentiary searches, general patrol of recreational trails, emergency response team-related calls and crowd control situations.”

Those crowd control situations Depatie mentions include parades and music festivals, where officers might have to get into the middle of a large crowd in an emergency situation.

“The public can expect these vehicles to be deployed at just those locations so that they’re able to complete patrols in an efficient and effective manner.”

Depatie adds that the ATVs are considered an investment in public safety and investigative efficiency.
