There are worse times for a major piece of refrigeration equipment to malfunction at a hockey arena.
The season for the rink at the Archie Dillon Sportsplex ended a few weeks early, when the brine pump quit working on Sunday.
The city’s manager of parks, recreation and building operations, Glenn Thurston, says it’s not as big a deal as it could have been.
“We did actually have the McIntyre, which we had planned on taking the ice out on Sunday, and we just shifted everything from the Sportsplex over to the McIntyre,” Thurston explains.
My Timmins Now Dot Com asked Thurston what exactly a brine pump does.
“It moves brine around underneath the concrete slab underneath the ice. It makes the ice and keeps it cool.”
No brine pump, no ice.
