AWD “BEAUTIFUL FEATURE”, BUT…

If you’re dreaming of a white big boy truck under your Christmas tree this year… complete with all-wheel drive… Timmins Police communications co-ordinator Marc Depatie has a warning.

“Everybody seems to overestimate the traction power that comes with all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive vehicles,” he says. “These are beautiful features on any vehicle, no question about it. But they are no replacement for attentive driving, appropriate use of speed for road conditions and a healthy distance between you and the vehicle you’re following.”

Depatie goes on to say that “All-wheel drive does not mean that you can tailgate (or) that you will come to a stop any sooner than if you did not have an all-wheel drive vehicle.  So let’s bear that in mind.  It’s great for traction, but it does not… affect your stopping distance in any way.”
