Canada Day Firework Fires into the Crowd

No one is hurt after a firework was shot in the wrong direction.

The City of Timmins was setting off the Canada Day fireworks a day early because of the unfoavourable weather forecasted for tonight. The firework show was stopped part way through because the wind direction changed and the debris was heading straight into town. Once the show stopped, one firework was shot straight into the Food Basic’s parking lot behind Hollinger Park.

Timmins resident Chantal Mailloux says that firework was aimed straight at her and her family.

Mailloux says no one was hurt. She did get checked by Paramedics because she was hyperventilating and shook up. She says her family had watched all the other firework shows from about the same spot.

There are some slight damaged to their vehicle’s from the firework bouncing, as well as a hole in her camp chair.

Mayor Steve Black says this is a very unfortunate situation.

Black says at this moment crews aren’t sure what happened. He says firework crews will be doing an investigation into how the firework got shot into a completely different direction.

Black says the rest of the Canada Day firework show will be ready to go later in the week. He says it could be fired off on Tuesday evening when the weather starts to clear up.
