The Timmins economy could be on an upswing.
The Conference Board of Canada has recently released a report stating Timmins economy will continue to grow with a the real GDP forecasted to grow 0.9 per cent this year and 0.8 per cent next year. It says this is following an annual increase of about 0.8 per cent over the past two years. Timmins Chamber of Commerce Manager of Policy Nick Stewart says this is a great thing to hear for businesses.
The Conference Board of Canada’s report says Timmins should see a large employment gain this year as well. Stewart says some of the companies on the ground have been feeling this for a little while now.
He there are still obstacles, like minimum wage increases, that local businesses face. Stewart says this report shows the resilience of these businesses and how they are finding ways to make things work and grow.
The Conference Board of Canada provides a two-year economic forecast for four cities including Timmins, Brandon, Red Deer and Prince George.Â
