Get Reading this Summer

The summer reading program is now in full swing.

The Timmins Public Library says it is once again hosting its summer reading club for kids aged three to 13. This free program aims to inspire the love of books and reading in today’s youth.

Early Childhood Education Advisor Francine Denis says the library hosts this club every year so kids can keep up their reading skills throughout the summer. Denis says studies do show that students who don’t actively read do loose some of their skills over the summer. She says kids who participate just log the amount of time they are reading for a chance to win prizes at the end of the season.

Denis says to keep motivation over the summer, the library will be hosting bi-weekly meetings in both English and French to check in with the participants.

She says any families looking to sign up their kids can do so at any of the library locations. Denis adds the library will also be set up at Downtown Timmins BIA Urban Park throughout the summer answering program questions.
