Hundreds of Indigenous Leaders Gather for Cree Fest in Cochrane

Hundreds of Indigenous leaders from across Canada are meeting in Cochrane this week to discuss indigenous affairs.

The National Treaties 1-11 Conference and Cree Fest 2017 is a unique mix of legal and political discussion involving the better understanding of treaties that form the foundation of indigenous affairs. Cochrane Mayor Peter Politis says he is filled with pride at the opportunity to host an event like this, as it allows the community to gain a better understanding on both aboriginal treaties and how they affect everyone. Politis also says the annual Cree Fest is a chance for indigenous and non-indigenous leaders to work together on improving indigenous affairs for future generations.

Cree Fest 2017 is taking place in Cochrane until Thursday, August 31st.
