The Porcupine Health Unit wants travellers to take precautions against yellow fever if you’re headed to Central or South America or Africa. PHU says you should ensure you’re vaccinated. However, in some instances that could be a problem. PHU Nurse Courtney Langlois says a couple of factors have resulted in a shortage of the vaccine. She says demand for the vaccine plus a manufacturing issue has created a shortage for the serum. Langlois suggests calling the health unit ahead of time to see if the vaccine is available before scheduling a vaccination appointment.
