A proposed Stars and Thunder campground at Northern College has sparked some heated debate.
The city is proposing that the west parking lot at the campus can be used as a temporary RV campground for the eight day festival. Many residents that live in the area voiced their displeasure of the matter. Teacher at St. Joseph School Leah Sasseville says that school is still in session for part of the festival and that having a campground right beside the school is not appropriate.
Others said that they were concerned about the possible camp fire smoke that would drift into their homes.
A man who identified himself as Mr. Ivenoff says some things council needs to consider are the traffic and environmental impacts of having an RV park at northern.
Ivenoff stated that he was in disbelief that the city would even consider this as an idea.
Mayor Steve Black clarified that everything that city planning has done is legal.
City staff will be reviewing these concerns and will provide an updated report at the April 3rd council meeting.
