Detour Gold is facing 14 charges under the Occupational Health and Safety Act after one of its employees was killed by cyanide. Fifty-two-year-old Denis Millette died last year at Detour’s Cochrane mine when a cyanide valve broke exposing him to the deadly poison. Sodium cyanide is used to separate gold from rocks. In addition to the company, three supervisors were also charged.
