News A Syrian refugee family has been matched with Timmins, should be here in 6 weeks SHARE ON: Taylor Ablett, staff Friday, Feb. 5th, 2016 Photo: The Syrian Refugee Sponsorship Committee talks to council about the process. Supplied by Taylor Ablett Timmins has officially been matched with a Syrian refugee family. We are expecting a family of six, from a Lebanese refugee camp sometime in the next four to six weeks. The family will go through intense medical and security screening by both Canadian and UN officials before beginning the trip to Timmins. The city is still working on bringing in a second family; after $30,000 was donated by the Club Richlieu to help that make that happen. The city is still accepting donations, in-kind items, or support services for when the family arrives.
