The Golden Manor has reduced their budget increase by $100,000. There have been many conversations over the city-run senior’s home the past few weeks, as Timmins was originally facing a $500,00 spending increase. Mayor Steve Black says they have taken that number to $400,000. He says it’s important to keep in their overall budget has many components, including revenue from the residents, provincial revenue, and municipal revenue. But he does say the city’s portion has gone up significantly this year. Black says council has been discussing a number of ways to save money at the Golden Manor over the last few weeks. He says the options that were able to be applied quick enough to have an impact this year were done so. Budget talks will continue in Timmins with a meeting tomorrow night. On the agenda is an overall update on the numbers from Treasurer Jim Howie. The meeting is at city hall at 5:00pm.
