Winter storm shuts down multiple highways

Our first snow fall and winter storm watch warnings in Timmins brought many closures to local highways. Highway 101 is still shut down from the Quebec Border to Matheson, and from Shillington into South Porcupine with no detour. The OPP says on Sunday evening a collision near Smooth Rock Falls closed Highway 11 in both directions.  Highway 11 is still closed, from Kapuskasing to Cochrane and Cochrane to Kirkland Lake.

Police say whenever there is extreme weather or low visibility to always keep an emergency blizzard kit in your vehicle and keep your gas and windshield washer fluid topped off as best you can.

UPDATE:

Highway 101 from Shillington to South Porcupine and from the Quebec Border to Matheson has been reopened. Highway 11 has also been reopened from Kapuskasing to Kirkland Lake.
