Council is going to try and balance the core service review with the strategic plan in upcoming meetings

Balancing the core service review and the strategic plan is going to be challenging for Timmins city council this year. Mayor Steve Black says the two reports are at odds with each other, with the KPMG review outlining the bare minimum the city has to offer in terms of services. He says if council wants to look at different areas they can save money, the review outlines what services the city is legislated to provide, versus which ones they are not.

Meanwhile, Black says the strategic plan is a vision for the city, that was largely developed by residents who outlined the amenities they want to see in the community. He says council will be looking at what they can afford to implement in 2016, and what will be held off for another year.

Council will start looking at the two reports at their upcoming meetings. The first council meeting of the year is on January 11th, while the first budget meeting is on the 13th.
