If you’re giving pets as presents this holiday season, NOAWS asks you make sure the recipient is ready

The Northern Ontario Animal Welfare Society is asking people to give serious thought before giving pets as presents this holiday season.  NOAWS Team Member Tasha Eddy says to do your research ahead of time, and make sure the pets are wanted. Eddy says they don’t normally adopt pets as “presents” because you don’t always know if the recipient is ready for that responsibility. Both NOAWS and the Timmins Humane Society generally get an influx of animals after Christmas, as Eddy says people realize they made a mistake.

However she does say that pets are a good gift if the recipient is ready. If the animal is for a kid, make sure their parents or guardians are aware and willing to take it on. You can find a list of adoptable animals on the following websites:
