Ontario is overpaying on electricity by $38B according to a new report from the Auditor General

A report from the Auditor General says Ontarians are overpaying on electricity by $38 billion. Timmins-James Bay MPP, Gilles Bisson says the report is indefensible and confirms what many residents already believed.

He says the report is really damning, essentially saying the government who made laws in order to plan how the electricity system will be developed, went outside the law and did their own thing. That ended in an increase on Hydro bills across the province.

Bisson says it isn’t all grim however, if Ontarians continue to pressure the government on important issues it can make a difference. He says the Municipal Land Tax is a perfect example, Ontarians spoke out against it and the province backed down.

The auditor’s report says Hydro One’s services are becoming less reliable and costing more. Recently there have been three Hydro One planned power outages which lasted over six hours in the Northeast.
