New homeowners are safe from a Municipal Land Tax

A new Municipal Land Tax, which could cost homeowners thousands, has not been passed into legislation. The tax could have been as high as $10,000 for new home owners taking possession of a property, which would go back into the city.

Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson says our Connecting Link is an example of why the tax was suggested in the first place. He says the province is in a much better position to pay for roads than Timmins is. He is questioning why the city has to foot 90 per cent of the bill to rebuild Algonquin because of a lack of a Connecting Link program, when the road is part of a provincial highway system.

He says the province has downloaded too many costs onto municipalities and the tax would leave home owners picking up the tab.
