Campaign 911 kicks off today in Timmins

The Timmins Police and our local MADD chapter are launching an annual campaign to combat impaired driving. Campaign 911 encourages drivers to call police if you suspect someone is behind the wheel after drinking. The national campaign was launched in 2007, and more than a hundred MADD chapters have joined in to spread the message to call police.

On average, four Canadians are killed every day because of impaired driving. MADD Timmins says reporting impaired drivers increases arrest rates by an average of 30 per cent.

MADD is releasing possible signs of an impaired driver:

1. Driving unreasonably fast, slow or at an inconsistent speed

7. Disregarding signals and lights

8. Approaching signals or leaving intersections too quickly or slowly

9. Driving without headlights, failing to lower high beams or leaving turn signals on

10. Driving with windows open in cold or inclement weather
