Timmins history: The CFCL Radio program Curb Service and what it became

We’re still looking at the start of Conrad Lavigne’s media empire in our history feature this week.

Karen Bachmann tells us more about the original programming on CFCL Radio when it was upstairs of the Fern Cottage restaurant on Third Ave.

One program was called Curb Service. It originated on the street.

“What that was, says Bachmann, “was having the host stand on the sidewalk on Third Ave. in front of the station with a microphone and ask people passing by for a request of songs. The response was so great that police officers had to direct traffic around the station every time that Curb Service was happening. And we would know that Curb Service would then morph into Hilltop Rendezvous when the station finally moved to Pine St. In 1955.”

…specifically Mont Sacré-Coeur on the north end of Pine St., where the building that housed CFCL Radio and TV still stands.
