A local woman is helping to bring Christmas to the less fortunate. Nancy Porter, who works in Timmins and lives in Iroquois Falls, is working on donating used winter clothes to those who need them. That’s not all, as she is also creating Christmas Eve boxes for families.
She says the boxes will be filled with things like snacks, hot chocolate, and a movie for families to watch together on the 24th. Porter says a stranger’s kindness is what sparked these programs. Years ago, Porter was a single mom with three kids and she says they didn’t have much for Christmas. A family donated brand new snow suits and gifts to their family, and to this day Porter has no idea who to thank.
She says not only will this help the communities she works and lives in, but it’s also a teaching moment for her kids. Of her six kids, two are still living at home, and will be helping to build the Christmas Eve boxes. She says she hopes by doing this program it will teach them that there are good people in the community who are willing to help, and they aren’t alone
Porter is looking for donations for both her Bundle Up and Be Warm program, and for her goal of 25 Christmas Eve boxes. All of the donated goods will stay in the community as she will be delivering them to those in need in Iroquois Falls.
Porter is also looking for space for the Bundle Up program for those who need winter jackets to come to and see what is available and find one that fits their size.
