TEDC asking for $65K increase in 2016

Budget talks for 2016 are continuing in Timmins. The Economic Development Corporation spoke to the city in a presentation last night, asking for an almost $65,000 increase for next year.

Chairman Fred Gibbons says this is to meet the requirements for staff as they move up in salary and in benefits.

City Councillor Pat Bamford says the TEDC is one of the only organizations that helps bring new businesses into the city. He says the city relies on them to grow jobs, expand businesses, and bring in capital. He says it would be foolish to cut costs, and the investments made are always returned “big time”.

No numbers have been agreed to yet, and the city will continue to hear more presentations from the community before anything is decided for the 2016 budget.
