November is Diabetes Awareness Month in Timmins

Diabetes Awareness Month begins next week in Timmins. The Diabetes Education Centre and the Porcupine Health Unit are letting people know that help is available even without a family doctor.

Registered Dietician at the Health Unit, Hilary Dean, says diabetes is very prominent in Timmins. The PHU does statistics every year, and Dean says last year they found there are more people suffering, and dying, from diabetes in Timmins than in the rest of Ontario.

On November 10th there is going to be an event with guest speakers, taste-testing, and education. It is happened at the Days Inn from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. New medications will be discussed, along with dietary restrictions. There is no cost to attend, but the Diabetes Education Centre is asking people to register beforehand. Call 705 267 8444 to do so.
