The long awaited core service report of Timmins has been released. Auditor Oscar Poloni looked at all of the different places the city can save money. In total, he found 43 opportunities, which adds up to$7-million in annual savings.
Of those 43 opportunities, Poloni outlined his top five. Road maintenance is the biggest factor. He says looking at the cost effectiveness of third party contractors, and reducing winter roads maintenance can help save up to $1-million a year. Improving transit cost recovery, and stopping grants to volunteer organizations also made the top five.
Poloni says the biggest surprise was the amount of money Timmins spends on parks and recreation. For every $1 Timmins spends, North Bay spends $4.
