A human skull has been identified, solving a two-year mystery

A two-year mystery regarding the identity of a skull found near Moosonee has been solved by police. The OPP says the skull belonged to Peter Hester of Moose Factory. Police say at the time, Hester was 32-years-old and was reported missing in 1979 while canoeing from the James Bay coast to Moosonee. Police say they were assisted by forensic teams from multiple police forces and a forensic anthropologist. The skull was found in May of 2013 at East Point in James Bay, about 75 kilometres north east of Moosonee.

Police are saying as of right now, they don’t think his death is suspicious and have ruled out foul play.
