A new industry is making the move to Timmins

Liquid Sulfur Dioxide is soon going to be produced in Timmins. Calabrian Corporation announced they are going to build a production facility, which will start in late 2016. SO2 is generally used in industrial and municipal wastewater treatments, to comply with water regulations. It’s also used in speciality industries like mining, food preservation, and pulp and paper processing. When it’s in full swing, the facility will employ 20 people.

The company says the process is environmentally friendly, and has been used in commercial use for more than 25 years. They say it’s virtually emission free, reliable, and capital efficient.

Mayor Steve Black says the partnership will have a positive impact on the community. He says it brings the addition of skilled manufacturing jobs to support Canada’s mining industry.
